KIDS EVENT REVIEW: Dorr Township Library Mini-Comicon

If you want the best kept secret in town, and you love geeks, you NEED to find your way to the Dorr Township Library.  It is so much more than a place for books and reading.  It is classes, people, activities, events, and yes-- still has all the great things libraries are supposed to have-- such as books, video game rentals, and more.

On Saturday, July 30th, 2016, the Dorr Library Staff threw an awesome mini-comicon!  The entire staff was dressed in multiple fandoms including X-Men (GAMBIT!), Pokemon, Harry Potter (GO Gryffindor!!!!), Superman, Steam Punk, old school She-ra, and more!  There were even cardboard cutouts of the Tardis, Frozen, and Captain America...

Hopping on the "Pokemon Go" craze, their staff has created a great place to participate and do some poke-hunting!  They are very knowledgeable and very helpful!  There is a Poke-stop at the library for anyone interested.

This year had 2 featured guests, some were characters from the screen accurate Star War's Costuming Group, the 501st Legion, with members of the Great Lakes Garrison.  Darth Vader made an appearance with two of his Stormtroopers, just for security measures.  They greeted kids and staff and had a fun time learning to Hula Hoop!

The other featured guest was Audacious Hoops, hoop dancing! (You can find them online, here).  They started with a beautiful history of hooping, continued on to a gorgeous demo of hoop dancing, and then finished off with a hands on teaching demo to every who came-- including to Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers. Every had fun!  One of my take-a-ways from the lesson, was that the reason most adults can't hoop well is due to simple science-- the hoop is too small and light for our adult body. We can't use child size hoops to rock out to Hula hooping!  Who knew?  Apparently the professionals do. :-)

Overall, this was a fun time. It was smaller this year than in past years, as it was accidentally scheduled the same day as the Byron Days parade, so look for it to possibly be a different weekend next year!  Definitely keep an eye on the Dorr Township Library website/facebook (linked below).

RECIPE: Grilled Chicken and Mozzarella Ravioli with Toasted Rosemary and Parmesan Bread

This is another Costco meal! If you are lucky enough to have this store near you, this will be easy. You will need: Costco grilled chicken with mozzarella ravioli (has 2 containers in package, I only made one). Rosemary Parmesan bread Garlic (I prefer organic) Olive oil Butter I started off slicing the bread into 1/2" slices.  This bread has so much flavor, I decided not to add garlic to the bread, but you could sprinkle some seasoning on the butter so you can fry it. Start heating the water for the pasta. In a frying pan, prepare the coating for the pasta.  Mince up 1-3 cloves of garlic,  about 1 teaspoon.  I made half the package, which serves 4-5.  Melt 1/3 sick of butter in the pan on medium heat.  Add the minced garlic. WATCH that garlic. With a spatula (I use a silicone, high temp spatula), stir the garlic/butter/olive oil mix every 30 seconds or so. Stuart’s Landing: Boardwalk in Marshall, Michigan

Stuart's Landing is home to a beautiful walkway that we were able to visit today.  Located at 603 Homer Road, in Marshall, Michigan, it is a gorgeous place to fish, walk, relax, and even to exercise.  The below plaque hangs on the deck near the riverbank, and I whole-heartedly agree with the sentiment:  God must be an outdoorsman.  The way we decided to take, the boardwalk "starts" at Stuart's Landing, and travels westward along the Kalamazoo River.  Sounding more like a nature preserve than a public boardwalk, it is a very relaxing and beautiful place to be.  I do not know how long the path is, but it has to be well over a mile of stunningly fresh, green, and safe boardwalk.  We would, however, recommend a can of bug spray to really enjoy your walk.  :-)  The path is clear and safe for strollers and even wheelchairs.  It allows you to clear your brain, listen to the water, the birds, and the leaves rustling around you-- with no need to get your feet dirty (unless

RESTAURANT REVIEW: Gallagher's Eatery & Pub, in Kalamazoo, MI

          Today, August 22nd, is my Hubby's and my "Mona-Versary" (monthly anniversary).  We got the idea from a wonderful, favorite couple of ours.  Consequently, we always try to do something fun and special on this date-- even if it is just popcorn and a movie at home.            However, we thought that we would go to one of our favorite places-- Gallagher's Eatery & Pub (Irish/American), located at 4210 Stadium Dr., Kalamazoo, MI 49008. http://gallagherseatery.com/Locations/Kalamazoo.aspx   This restaurant, and the pub-side of it, are well known for their Irish fare of food, beers, beer club, and other such things.
